The more I sit and think about my stay at St. John's in St. Louis, the more I want to tell nurses how much I love them. The nurses in labor and delivery, the nursery and on the post delivery floor were PHENOMENAL. If any of you don't want too many details stop reading here. I am going to include some tidbits of my stay there that you may not want to read.
These wonderful women were so personable, caring and understanding. I felt so at ease with all of them. They made some really awkward and uncomfortable times very easy for me.
When I first made it back to my hospital room and used the restroom for the first time I found that my mind could not wrap itself around the set up they had me in. Of course there were the fashionable mesh underpants, the pad that if you stood it up next to me on the floor would have made it's way to my waist, ice packs and tucks pads. I had no idea how to make all of these things work together. I had to pull the little red help string next to the potty. The kindest woman ever came in and non-chalantly showed me where everything went. I watched her gingerly place the tucks pads atop the ice pack that was soon to ease my discomfort all while spraying me down with the perinatal water bottle. She was an absolute ANGEL. I did however feel very bad for the aide who was new to the floor. The poor thing was very young and just stood there while trying to avert her eyes. At that point I could not have cared less who was in the room. As long as they were all as wonderful as the nurse working with me.
My other favorite nurse came in very late one evening with apple juice, graham crackers and nipple cream. I loved her. She sat for a bit and told me I was pretty while she compared the nipple cream to chapstick. I mean really, who doesn't love feeling pretty and using chapstick?
The nurses truly made my first childbirth experience a wonderful one. I can not thank them or any other nurse out there enough!!!!!

I feel you!! I really think it is the nurses who really deserve the accolaids! They are who really deliver the baby, who take care of the momma and baby and who do all of the "dirty" work! You really do lose all of you modesty when you have a baby! I remember when I had my first I had a student nurse (who was male) who had to help me with all of the after baby bussiness. And a class of student nurses (yes about 7) came in to "observe me learning how to nurse. At that point they should have just put me on an auditorium stage... I agree with you THANK YOU TO ALL WHO NURSE!!
ReplyDeleteHope you are doing well at home with your little darling!
You are too funny Megan! I'm glad your experience was a good one. I can't wait to meet Luca!
ReplyDeleteNims- That mesh underwear is a good time. I hope you are still rocking it. Glad the nurses took care of you.
ReplyDeleteI am still waiting for Luca's mail. You might want to get him to task, you don't want a slacker at this early age!
